Writing Policies and Procedures

Manuals are one of the best training/reference tools available. No highly organized business tries to operate without them. Each position should have an operations manual that details each task—step by step. Each manual clearly states how procedures are to be completed, leaving no room for individual interpretation. This not only takes out any guesswork; it ensures accountability from your employees. Employees then know what is expected from them at all times. Manuals can be used in the initial training process and/or as an on-the-job reference guide.

In addition to operations manuals, your business should have a manager’s manual and an employee handbook. Having written documentation is a valuable organizational tool that clarifies the company’s viewpoints, policies, and procedures. It also helps to ensure that everyone understands their duties and responsibilities as employees of your company.
